How can a motor carrier remove a crash or violation on their SMS score with the FMCSA? Permanently deleted user January 17, 2025 20:14 Updated The FMCSA is required to keep SMS data as accurate as possible. If the SMS data contains inaccuracies, the invalid violations or crashes can be removed from the motor carrier's score. Violations and Crashes can be removed from a motor carrier's SMS scores in two ways. The FMCSA removes violations and crashes from SMS data automatically when the violation or crash is great than 24 months old. When the the data is less than 24 months old, Violations: A request called a DataQ can be submitted to the FMCSA. The FMCSA will then review the submitted information and make a determination based upon the submitted evidence. Crashes: A request called a CPDP can be submitted to the FMCSA. The FMCSA has 21 crash categories listed in their CPDP guidelines that are considered as not-preventable. If the FMCSA determines that a crash is not-preventable, it will be removed from your Crash BASIC calculation if it falls within one of the 21 categories. As a client of Navigator, motor carriers can request a DataQ or CPDP submissions on their behalf via Ask Anything within Waypoint. Navigator handles the entire DataQ and CPDP process for the motor carrier. Comments 0 comments Please sign in to leave a comment.
